Celebrate National Popcorn Month with Us!

We must be very POPular if we get our own month! October is National Popcorn Month and we couldn’t be happier. Why October you ask? For over 30 years (Hey! That’s how long we’ve been around!), October has taken the title of National Popcorn Month because of the fall harvest in the Midwest every year. It was given the official title in 1999, under then Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman! And now every year, we get an extra reason to celebrate the snack we love most: Popcorn!

We’re not the only ones crazy for kernels though! Popcorn was actually discovered first by Native Americans in North America and was used as everyday food or as a supplement to other meals. Evidence was found of popcorn being made in 3600 B.C. in New Mexico, making it one of the oldest forms of cooking corn! Who knew it wasn’t just for snacking during movies or baseball? (Well, clearly historians and us of course). An early Spanish account of a ceremony honoring the Aztec gods who watched over fishermen reads: “They scattered before him parched corn, called momochitl, a kind of corn which bursts when parched and discloses its contents and makes itself look like a very white flower; they said these were hailstones given to the god of water.” (source).

We may be biased, but I think everyone can agree that popcorn is the perfect snack to enjoy year long, with so many variations to choose from! If you’re in college and you are reading this blog post, you should be studying. But while you’re here, we have something for your break (that’s what you’re doing right, taking a break from studying? Nod yes for your parents). What goes with studying. Snacking right?

So in about a paragraph or two, tell us how you feel about popcorn as a snack while you study. Also, tell us about how many breaks you take while studying (or if you’re the parent how many you think they take) and how often does that break include spinning your chair around and turning on the t.v. (yes, we remember that all too clearly from college too!) Oh sorry, that just dated us. We mean spinning around in your chair and alt-tabbing to Netflix.

Gourmet Popcorn. It is such a great snack for so many different types of get togethers with friends and family. So the topic of this Gourmet Popcorn Party (with 3 prizes!) is well gourmet popcorn!  We want to know what you think about when you think about those 2 words together, gourmet & popcorn. What thoughts and images are conjured up in your head? At The Popcorn Factory, we’ve been this for quite some time (as you can see from the graphic on the left..) and we’ve loved every minute of it. We are passionate about popcorn. When we are in our actual Popcorn Factory (yes it’s not just a name, there an actual Popcorn Factory!), we love to brainstorm all the different possibilities for future popcorn flavors while always making sure that the quality of our gourmet popcorn is second to none.

Packers Vs. Steelers in Super Bowl XLV!

Welcome to the 1st Annual The Popcorn Factory Super Bowl Popcorn Blog Party! It’s the Packers vs. Steelers and it’s Super Bowl XLIV (45)! 

The playoff were crazy this year! But after all that craziness, the two teams that remain on top of the hill to battle it out are the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburg Steelers! As we all know, historically, the Packers and the Steelers are not strangers to the Big Game. With 9 Super Bowl rings between them (yes, yes we know Steeler fans that you have 6 of those, but hey cmon the Lombardi Trophy…), the expectations are high for both teams.

So in about a paragraph or two, tell us about  your favorite memories of Super Bowls past and how you think this one will shake out.
